Tara Hicks (2002) Recipient of the 2025 Merrin James Fellowship
Friday, 7 November 2025

Tara is the Founder and Principal Psychologist of Minded Psychology, an integrative private practice based in Beaumaris. Over the past four and a half years, she has built a team of 20 skilled, compassionate and dedicated psychologists and counsellors who provide assessment and therapeutic services across the Bayside community, with a particular interest in supporting Firbank adolescents and their families. This fellowship will support Tara's professional development through the Women in Leadership program at Monash University. It will further strengthen the purpose and vision behind Minded Psychology, deepen her understanding of the influence and responsibility of her leadership role, and enhance her capacity to foster a positive workplace culture, mentorship, and meaningful community connections.

While private practice can at times feel isolating, Tara has intentionally centred connection as a core value within Minded Psychology. This value shapes the therapeutic relationships formed with clients and supports positive wellbeing outcomes.

The importance of connection was instilled in Tara during her time as a Firbank student. Firbank not only provided the academic foundation that enabled her to pursue psychology but also modelled the power of belonging to a strong, supportive community, one that nurtures emotional wellbeing, confidence and a sense of purpose.

Tara feels privileged that, even after all these years, Firbank continues to influence her professional growth and values. She looks forward to supporting the next generation of Firbank girls to find their own empowered place within community and discovering how connection, support and shared purpose can shape their success as women, well beyond academic achievement.

Congratulations Tara.
